-
Will my GP recognize my treatment? Can they prescribe the medication?
The NICE Guidelines recommend that a Specialist requires to diagnose ADHD and commence treatment and continue prescribing medication and monitoring treatment until a patient is stable on a steady dose of an ADHD medication.
After this, the guidelines suggest that the GP can take over prescribing and monitoring of side effects under shared care protocol with your Consultant Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist then requires to do Annual reviews of your need to continue medication, your tolerability and side effects.
Whilst we can draft a shared care Protocol for your GP to agree and implement, Primary Care services in various regions in UK have varying local policies regarding this. Hence it is best to have a conversation with your GP regarding whether they will accept and implement our shared care protocol.
